ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1873e: 282.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Sciotel [Sciotel ( Eritrea)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MSNG): Bogos 1870, Sciotel, O. Beccari / Typus / aethiopicus Rond. , ♀ / Microdon aethiopicus ♀.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species (Smith & Vockeroth 1973: 509); valid species, as Metadon aethiopicus ( Reemer & Ståhls 2013: 133) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1873e: 282) described Microdon aethiopicus from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by O. Beccari and O. Antinori. Guiglia (1957: 195) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 52) reported the holotype (♀) in the MSNG.
