Volucella parva Rondani, 1848

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1848b: 66.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Brasile [ Brazil]” ( Rondani 1848b: 63) .

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Copestylum parvum ( Thompson et al. 1976: 81) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1848b: 66) described Volucella parva from a single female: “ in individuo nostro [in our specimen]” received from G. Mussino. Rondani was unsure of the identity of this nominal species but considered it very similar to Volucella vaga (Fabricius, 1795) now in the genus Copestylum Macquart, 1846 . This is one of the few exotic species described in Rondani (1848b) that Costa (1866) did not list as in the MZUN. We could not locate any type specimens of this nominal species in our study.
