ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865c: 220.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Alpibus … ad Oropam [Alps … near Oropa ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (missing left fore-leg), ( MZUF: Box 15): Demoticus Mcq. / nigricans Rnd., Alpi / Oropa / 784.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Masistylum arcuatum (Mik, 1863) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 256) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1865c: 220) described Demoticus nigricans from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. We found one syntype in this study.
