Dejania podiceria Rondani, 1863

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 17.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Americae aequatorialis [Equatorial (South) America]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study. See Remarks.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Eudejeania melanax (Walker, 1849) ( Guimarães 1971: 54, Nihei 2016: 921).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 17) described Dejania podiceria without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, from material received from M. Spinola. Costa (1866: 31) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “662”. There is an empty pin labeled “Museo Zoologico / M. Zool. N° 11312 / Dejeania podiceria Rnd. , Rio Napo” (Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Tachinidei - Gen. Dejeania a Belvosia ) in the MZUN. Rondani (1863: 94) included this nominal species under the generic name “ Dejania ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Dejeania Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 71). Nihei (2016: 921) listed this nominal species as “ podicera ”, which we consider as an incorrect subsequent spelling.
