Exorista tritaeniata Rondani, 1859 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 123 (key), 147 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one very dirty, covered with mold, missing mid-legs, the other completely covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 13): Exorista Mgn / tritaeniata Rnd. / 655; 1 ♀, syntype (missing left mid-leg) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Exorista tritaeniata R. 50 ♀ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 1, posiz. E-3 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani; 1 ♀, syntype ( MSNPV: Box 97): Exorista tritaeniata R., 111, ♀, Parma.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Cadurciella tritaeniata ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 207, Pape et al. 1995: 20, Cerretti 2010: 210, O’Hara et al. 2020: 298).
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 147) described Exorista tritaeniata from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ Foeminas tantum … inveni [I found females only]”. We found four female syntypes in this study. An additional MZUF female, numbered “655”, is not included in the type series because its label is rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and is in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat it to be a subsequent addition.
