ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 25.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Amer. Merid. [ South America ]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUN: Box Daxiidei D 01, 01): Sarcophaga chrysura Rnd., Amer. mer. [= South America ] / M. Zool. N° 11382 / ♂ .

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Sarcophaginae View in CoL ( Lopes 1969: 53, Pape 1996: 443).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 25) described Sarcophaga chrysura from just the male sex, without specifying the number of specimens or the length of the specimens, from material received from G. Genè. Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “688”. We also found one syntype in this study.
