Sargus cyanifrons Rondani, 1848 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1848b: 103.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Brésil … Guyana [ Brazil … Guyana]” ( Macquart 1838a: 211) [localities for Sargus testaceus ( Fabricius, 1805) sensu Macquart (1838) ].

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Ptecticus cyanifrons View in CoL ( James 1973: 17, Woodley 2001: 211).

REMARKS: Rondani (1848b: 103) proposed Sargus cyanifrons for Sargus testaceus ( Fabricius, 1805) sensu Macquart (1838a: 211) , which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Macquart’s redescription of the female of Sargus testaceus , so the types for Sargus cyanifrons Rondani should be in Macquart’s collection. The type material of Sargus cyanifrons has presumably been lost because it is not in the MNHN, OUMNH or MHNL where Macquart’s collection is distributed (E. Delfosse, Z. Simmons, O. Boilly, pers. comm., 2019).
