This worldwide, but predominantly tropical, family of acalyptrate flies contains 640 species ( Marshall 2012, Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1848b, 1851, 1863, 1875c) described five Neotropical and three Oriental nominal species. Six are currently considered as valid, two as junior synonyms ( Steyskal 1968a, 1977a, Ferro & Marshall 2018). Except for the type material of two species, which are presumed lost, the remaining type material is distributed between the MZUN (three) and MSNG (three).
