Limoniidae View in CoL View at ENA
This family, of doubtful taxonomic status, contains more than 10,500 species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Savchenko et al. (1992), Oosterbroek & Starý (1995), Pape et al. (2011) and Oosterbroek (2020) considered Limoniidae as a family within Tipulomorpha, Alexander & Byers (1981) and Marshall (2012) as the subfamily Limoniinae within Tipulidae . In his “ Stirps Limnobiina ” Rondani (1856) described four Palaearctic nominal species, all except one considered as doubtful ( Savchenko et al. 1992). The type material of two species has been lost; the type material of the other two are in the MZUF (one) and OUMNH (one).
