ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871a: 336.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ In Monte Cinesio [Mount Cenis (Piedmont, Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 4 ♂♂, syntypes ( MRSN): 14 69 / Trichophticus [sic!] Rond. armipes Bell., Moncenisio [= Mount Cenis]; 1 ♂, syntype ( MRSN): 21 70 / Trichophticus [sic!] Rond. armipes Bell., Moncenisio [= Mount Cenis].

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Thricops aculeipes ( Zetterstedt, 1838) View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 65, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 10).

REMARKS: Rondani (1871a: 336) described Trichophthicus armipes from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ mas lectus [male collected]”, received from by L. Bellardi, to whom he attributed the species name. Five male syntypes were found in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Trichophticus , which is an “unjustified emendation of Tricophthicus Rondani, 1861 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 182).
