ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1873e: 288.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Keren [Keren ( Eritrea)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype ( MSNG): Bogos 1870, Keren, O. Beccari / Typus / sitiens Rond. , ♂ / Stomoxis sitiens ♂.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species as Stomoxys sitiens ( Pont 1980a: 761, Pont 1986b: 108).

REMARKS: Rondani (1873e: 288) described Stomoxys sitiens from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by O. Beccari and O. Antinori. Guiglia (1857: 196) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 43) reported the holotype (♂) in the MSNG. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Stomoxis ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Stomoxys Geoffroy, 1762 or subsequent usage of Stomoxis Latreille, 1807 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 173).
