Spilogaster sylvana Rondani, 1871 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871a: 322.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in montuosis Insubriae [ Insubrian (= Lombardy, Italy) mountains]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing fore-legs) ( MZUF: Box 25): Spilogaster Mcqrt / pagana Scop. sylvana Rndn. , ♂, Apenn. [= Apennines] / 1319.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Mydaea corni ( Scopoli, 1763) View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 156, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 14).

REMARKS: Rondani (1871a: 322) described Spilogaster sylvana from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Semel marem inveni [I found the male once]”. We found one syntype in this study. Not included in the type series are an additional three specimens in the MZUF numbered “1319”: two females because of their sex; and a male because its label is yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and is in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat it to be a subsequent addition .
