ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 112 (key), 121 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in montuosis elatioribus Tirolis Italici [on the highest Italian Tyrolean mountains ]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (missing right fore- and left mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 25): Spilogaster Mcqrt / montana Rnd. , ♂, Tirol . Ital. [= Italian Tyrol] / 1325.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Helina montana ( Pont 1986b: 145, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 13).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 121) described Spilogaster montana from a single male received from P. Strobel: “ Marem unicum possideo [I have a single male]”.
