ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 210 (key), 211 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ In Alpibus Insubriae [Insubrian (= Lombardy, Italy) Alps]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (covered with mold, missing fore- and right mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 21): Mesembrina Mgn / vespertina Rnd. , ♀, Alpi Ins . [Insubrian (= Lombardy) Alps] / 1128.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Mesembrina mystacea (Linnaeus, 1758) View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 85, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 11).

REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 211) described Mesembrina vespertina from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ foeminam tantum observavi … lecta et olim transmissa a D. Marietti [I have seen only the female … collected and formerly sent by D. Marietti]”. We found one syntype in this study.
