ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1877c: 255 (key), 262 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Italia centrale [central Italy]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one glued to a cardboard) ( MZUF: Box 24): Coenosia Mgn / brachialis Rnd. / 1284.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Caricea brachialis ( Pont 1986b: 193) ; valid species, as Lispocephala brachialis ( Gorodkov et al. 1995: 15) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1877c: 262) described Coenosia brachialis from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Semel marem legi [I collected the male once]”. We found two syntypes in this study. Two MZUF females are not included in the type series because of their sex.
