Stevenia partenopea Rondani, 1861 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 144 (key), 145 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ prope Neapolim [near Naples ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (missing right hind-leg) ( MZUF: Box 17): Stevenia Desv. / partenopea Rnd. / 904 / holotype ♂, Stevenia partenopea Rnd., T. Pape det., 1986 / Paykullia partenopea (R.), T. Pape det., 1986.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Paykullia partenopea View in CoL ( Pape 1989: 357, Herting 1993: 115, Pape et al. 1995: 16, Peris & González-Mora 2007: 49; Cerretti et al. 2020: 85).
REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 145) described Stevenia partenopea from a single male: “ Masculum unicum speciei misit Cl. Entom. Doct. Achille Costa [The entom. Doct. Achille Costa sent a single male of the species]” received from A. Costa, to whom he ( Rondani 1861e: 145) attributed the species name. Pape (1989: 357) reported the holotype ♂ in the MZUF. The subsequent spelling “ parthenopea ” has been used ( Bezzi & Stein 1907: 439, Stein 1924: 182, Herting 1961: 30, 1974: 143) but it is not in prevailing usage ( Pape 1989: 357, Pape et al. 1995: 16, Peris & González-Mora 2007: 49, O’Hara et al. 2011: 212, Cerretti et al. 2020: 85). Therefore, the original spelling “ partenopea ” is to be used and “ parthenopea ” is an incorrect subsequent spelling.
