ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1840b: 18.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Prope aquas collinas Parmae [near a Parmese hilly wet land ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, glued to cardboard stage, in poor condition) ( OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box. 21): syntype / Type / D. obscura Ex. Coll. Bigot; 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, pinned on a stout, big-headed steel pin, which has partially destroyed the specimen) ( OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box. 21): syntype / Type / D. obscura Ex. Coll. Bigot; 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, glued to cardboard stage, in poor condition) ( OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box. 21): syntype / Type / Dasyneura R. G. [illegible word] Cecydomyia [sic!]? D. obscura [illegible word] Rondani, Parma / D. obscura Ex. Coll. Bigot.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Skuhravá 1986: 157, Dahl et al. 1995: 26); unplaced species of Cecidomyiinae ( Gagné 2010: 422) ; nomen dubium in Cecidomyiidae ( Gagné & Jaschhof 2017: 576) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1840b: 18) designated Dasineura obscura as the type species for the genus Dasineura Rondani, 1880 without providing either a detailed description, number or sex of the specimens. Gagné et al. (1997: 93) reported that the type series for Dasineura obscura was lost. Dasineura obscura was suppressed as the type species for the genus Dasineura by the I.C.Z.N. (1998: 246 [Opinion 1911]) because the species cannot be identified from the original description and the type material has been lost. We found three syntypes in the OUMNH during this study.
