Anthrax palumbii Rondani, 1877
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1877a: 55.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Sicilia [Sicily ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Bombyliidae View in CoL ( Evenhuis & Greathead 1999: 526, 2015: 548).
REMARKS: Rondani (1877a: 55) proposed this name for a pupa received from Palumbi. He provided a brief description of this nominal species: “La ninfa è distintissima e maggiore di quelle delle Anth. flava ed otentotta [the nymph is very different and bigger than those of Anth. (= Anthrax ) flava and otentotta ]”. O’Hara et al. (2011: 212) considered the name as unavailable. Evenhuis & Greathead (1999: 526) could not locate any type material. We did not find any pupa in all the museums we visited.
