This small family of acalyptrate flies contains nearly 150 species ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1875a) described one Palaearctic species, considered as a junior synonym ( Soós 1984 f, Canzoneri et al. 1995), in his “ Stirps Loncheinae ”. The family Chyromyidae was proposed by Hendel (1916). The type material is in the MZUF.
