Neurolyga turmalis Rondani, 1840

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1840b: 25.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Parma (Italy) because the work deals with Italian species and he wrote “ plures turmatim volitantes in loci udis, tempore presertim vernali, et aliquando in fenestris legi [I collected many specimens flying in groups, especially in winter, and sometimes on the windows]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Campylomyza turmalis ( Skuhravá 1986: 89, Dahl et al. 1995: 25); doubtful species of Micromyinae ( Gagné 2010: 420) View in CoL ; nomen dubium View in CoL in Cecidomyiidae ( Gagné & Jaschhof 2017: 579) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1840b: 25) described Neurolyga turmalis without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens but from more than one specimen: “ Plures turmatim volitantes [Many specimens flying in groups]”. Gagné & Solinas (1996: 73) reported not finding the type series of this nominal species and suggested designating a neotype. We could not locate any type specimens of this nominal species in our study.
