CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Conops vitellinus Loew, 1847 View in CoL ( Chvála & Smith 1988: 251, Stuke 2017: 51).
REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 225) described Sphixosoma mucronata , without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material he had collected and also received from L. Bellardi. This nominal species was described under the generic name Spixosoma , which is an “unjustified emendation of Sphyxosoma Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 170). Stuke (2017: 51) only reported the three male and three female syntypes in the MZUF and did not mention those in the other collections. We found ten syntypes in this study.
