ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 156 (key), 162 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie agri parmensis [ Parmese plains ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing its abdomen, the other covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 23): Chorthophila Mcq. / terminalis Rnd. / 1203; 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, missing abdomen and all legs except for right fore-leg, wings damaged) ( OUMNH General Collection: Box 139.9): syntype / terminalis Rd. / sec. typ. CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Pegomya terminalis View in CoL ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 87, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 8).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 162) described Chorthophila terminalis from three females: “ Foeminas tres tantum legi [I collected three females only]”. Hennig (1973b: 650) reported that the MZUF type series consists of three females. We also found all the syntypes in this study. An additional MZUF female from Sicilia [= Sicily] numbered 1203 is not included in the type series because it is not from the type locality. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Chorthophila , which is an “unjustified emendation of Chortophila Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 57).
