ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 46.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ De Cuba [ Cuba]” ( Macquart 1838b: 89) [type locality for Mallophora scopifer Wiedemann, 1828 sensu Macquart, 1838 ].

TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Mallophora macquartii Rondani, 1851 ( Martin & Papavero 1970: 75, Artigas & Angulo 1980: 77); valid species ( Artigas & Papavero 1997: 105, Papavero 2009: 42).

REMARKS: see remarks under Mallophora macquartii Rondani, 1851 . Artigas & Papavero (1997: 105) and Papavero (2009: 42) incorrectly reported the type material as in the MZUN. The types of Mallophora scopipeda are in Macquart’s collection (MNHN). The type material for Mallophora scopipeda will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Mallophora macquartii Rondani, 1851 (see Mallophora macquartii Rondani, 1851 ).
