Original material: [icon] in Plukenet, Amalth. Bot.: t. 413, f. 1. 1705; Almag. Mant.: 88. 1700 - Typotype: Herb. Sloane 92: 72 ( BM-SL) .

Current name: Aspalathus cymbiformis View in CoL View at ENA DC. ( Fabaceae : Faboideae ).

Note: Dahlgren (in Opera Bot. 8(1): 133. 1963) found that this was probably based on a poorly drawn Plukenet illustration, nevertheless identifiable (via a typotype specimen in Herb. Sloane 92: 72. BM-SL) as A. cymbiformis DC. As Linnaeus’ name was later used by him for A. carnosa P.J. Bergius , and by other botanists mostly for A. hispida Thunb., Dahlgren treated A. thymifolia as a nomen ambiguum et dubium in the synonymy of A. cymbiformis . No formal rejection proposal appears to have been made.
