scientific name

Amaranthus hybridus L.
status

Amaranthus hybridus Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 990. 1753.

“Habitat in Virginia.” RCN: 7180.

Lectotype (Townsend in Nasir & Ali, Fl. W. Pakistan 71: 19. 1974): Herb. Linn. No. 1117.19 (LINN).

Current name: Amaranthus hybridus L. ( Amaranthaceae ).

Note: The name and its original elements were discussed by Brenan (in Watsonia 4: 267. 1961) and Sauer (in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 54: 108. 1967). Although Soó (in Acta Bot. Hungarica 15: 342. 1969) treated it as nomen dubium, most recent authors use the name and Townsend (1974) appears to have been the first to typify it.
