Type locality.
"Dans le Jourdain, à 4 kilomètres au-dessus de la Mer Morte" [in the Jordan river, 4 km above the Dead Sea], Palestine/Jordan.
Remarks.
Apparently by mistake, Heller et al. (2005: 245, 247) listed the species in synonymy of Melanopsis lampra Bourguignat, 1884 as well as of Melanopsis obliqua Bourguignat, 1884, both of which they ranked as subspecies of Melania costata (Olivier, 1804).
