Type locality. Germany, Kiel and Hamburg (“Habitat Kilonii de Sehestedt Hamburgi Dr. Schulz”).

Material examined. S & TL coll. 1 syntype.

Identity. Acleris variegana ( Denis and Schiffermüller, 1775) ( Tortricinae , Tortricini ).

Remarks. Fabricius (1794) refers to Tortrix osbeckiana Thunberg, 1784 (as Phalaena osbeckiana ), a synonym of A. variegana , when treating this species. This species was used in combination with Acleris (then considered a subgenus of Peronea ) and synonymised with A. variegana (as a variety) by Stephens (1852). The synonymy has remained stable since then (e.g., Brown 2005).
