Range: — Mexico to Panama; Colombia and Venezuela to French Guiana and Bolivia (SC); Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil.
Ecology: —Rare (2 collections known), terrestrial in open vegetation; 350–500 m.
Notes: —This species and others in the immediate group, including the related A. delicatulum , were studied by Giudice (2001). Several close relatives appear to occur in Africa and Madagascar, e.g., A. mendoncae Alston and A. madagascariense Rosehdahl. Somewhat more distantly related to the widespread A. philippense and allies.
