Notes:—The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The BC specimen was identified as Brassica cf. souliei (Batt.) Batt. by Martínez-Laborde in 2018, a name synonymized under Guenthera amplexicaulis subsp. souliei (Batt.) Gómez-Campo , according to APD (2020). No information could be found to distinguish between the subspecies of G. amplexicaulis , so it is preferable to leave it at species rank.
1,3 Brassica amplexicaulis var. occidentalis Pau in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1930 nº 247 (1932), in sched.
=§ Diplotaxis tenuisiliqua Delile subsp. tenuisiliqua
Ind. loc.:—“Hab. ad ripas fl. Lukos, pr. El Ksar-el-Quebir; 18 aprilis”
Lectotype (designated here):— Ad ripas fl. Lukos, pr. El Ksar-el-Quebir, 18 April 1930, Font Quer 247-1930 (lectotype BC 137350 ! Notes:—The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. The BC specimen was identified as Diplotaxis tenuisiliqua subsp. tenuisiliqua by Martínez-Laborde in 1996. APD (2020) includes the variety of Pau in Guenthera amplexicaulis (Desf.) Gómez-Campo , but based on examination of the original material, and taking into account the previous determination, it should be synonymized under D. tenuisiliqua subsp. tenuisiliqua .
1,2,3 Brassica foliata Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1928 nº 129 (1929), in sched.
=§ Brassica repanda subsp. confusa (Emb. & Maire) Heywood
Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in fissuris rupium cal. collis Tizi Seluitan (Beni Hasan), 1300 m. alt.; 19 junii”
Lectotype (designated here):—In fissuris rupium cal. collis Tizi Seluitan (Beni Hasan), 1300 m, 19 June 1928, Font Quer 129-1928 (lectotype BC 3834 ! Notes:—The BCN and GDA specimens were labelled as syntypes, the latter one by Vizoso in 2013. There is no consensus regarding the infraspecific taxa of Brassica repanda (Willd.) DC. APD (2020) considers Brassica foliata as synonym of subsp. blancoana (Boiss.) Heywood , but Fennane (1999) and Gómez Campo (1993) do not recognize this subspecies in Morocco. Based on examination of the type material, B. foliata should be synonymized under B. repanda subsp. confusa .

Ind. loc.:—“Bu Allal”
Lectotype (designated here):—Bu Allal (Beni Gorfet), 1925, Vidal s.n. (lectotype MA 131002 !; isolectotype BC 32721 !)
Notes:— Calendula vidalii A.W.Hill is a later homonym of Pau’s taxon published in 1929. The BC and MA specimens were identified as C. stellata by Valdés in 1996 and by Silveira in 2012, respectively. There are other specimens at Herbs. BC and K, which were not selected as types, since they are labelled as “cult ex sem.” ( BC 32720 !, BC 32772 !, K 000307200 [photo!]).
1,2,3 Calicotome grosii Pau & Font Quer in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1927 nº 278 (1928), in sched.

Notes:—The BCN and GDA specimens were labelled as syntypes, the latter one by Vizoso in 2013. El Oualidi et al. (2012) cites the MPU specimen as type. The BC specimen was identified as C. intermedia by García Murillo in 1999.
1,3 Calystegia sepium var. tangerina Pau in Mem. Real Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 12: 364 (1924a)
=§ Calystegia silvatica (Kit.) Griseb. subsp. silvatica
Ind. loc.:—“ Tánger, Tetuán”
Lectotype (designated here):— Tánger, April 1921, Pau s.n. ( MA 94406 ! [http://colecciones.rjb.csic.es/#cardAdv. php?CatalogNumber=MA-01-00094406])
Notes:—Three syntypes for this variety were found: MA 94406 from Tanger, and MA 94403! and BC 41779! from Tétouan. Among the two sheets from Herb. MA, the only one labelled as var. tangerina is chosen as lectotype. APD (2020) synonymizes this variety under Calystegia soldanella (L.) R.Br. ex Roem. & Schult., but all three these sheets have been identified as C. silvatica subsp. silvatica by Brummitt based on leaf shape and corolla size.
3 Campanula filicaulis var. maroccana Pau in Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1927 nº 634 (1928), in sched.
=§ Campanula filicaulis Durieu
Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in rupibus, pr. Badú (Atlante rhiphaeo) 1600 m. alt.; 6 julii”
Lectotype (designated here):—In rupibus, pr. Badú (Atlante rhiphaeo), 1600 m, 6 July 1927, Font Quer 634-1927 (lectotype BC 39634 ! [https://www.ibb.csic.es/herbari/ JPEG / BC39634 .jpg]; isolectotypes BCN 74166 About BCN [photo!], GDA 1077 About GDA [photo!], MA 121010 !, MA 121011 !, MPU 006649 About MPU [photo!])
Notes:—The original label reads “Obs.: Mihi videtur Camp. mollis L. var. Maroccana F.Q.”. Therefore, the name Campanula mollis var. maroccana Font Quer should be considered as a nom. altern. (Art. 36.1, Turland et al. 2018). The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2013. López González (1980) indicates number 634 of Font Quer’s exsiccata Iter Maroccanum 1927 as type, but without citing any specimen or herbarium. The MA specimens were identified as C. velutina var. maroccana (Pau) G.López by López González in 1979 and the BC specimen as C. filicaulis by Nyman in 1996. APD (2020) synonymizes this variety under Campanula mollis L. Based on the corolla size (<9 mm) and the calyx-lobe size (<5 mm) the accepted name should be C. filicaulis .
1,2,3 Campanula leptosiphon Pau & Sennen in Sennen, Diagn. Nouv.: 195 (1936b)
Ind. loc.:—“Hab.- Maroc: Atlas Rifain, Targuist, à Bab-Izugar, 1230 m. Leg. Sennen et Mauricio ”
Lectotype (designated by Sáez & Aldasoro 2003: 237):— Maroc: Atlas Rifain , Targuist à Bab-Izugan, 1230 m, 20 June 1933, Sennen & Mauricio 8849 (lectotype MA 121002 ! [http://colecciones.rjb.csic.es/#cardAdv. php?CatalogNumber=MA-01-00121002]; isolectotypes BC 139262 !, CLF 001282 About CLF [photo!], G 00439691 [photo!]*, GDA 1097 About GDA [photo!], MAF 2911 About MAF [photo!]*, MAF 61072 About MAF [photo!], MPU 009362 About MPU [photo!], MPU 009594 About MPU [photo!], P 00495311 [photo!])
Notes:—The previous name Campanula dichotoma var. leptosiphon Pau & Sennen , proposed by Pau (1932), cannot be considered validly published, because he only indicated that the corolla tube was curious (“ Forma muy curiosa por el tubo de la corola ”) (Art. 38.3, Turland et al. 2018). Although the CLF specimen does not bear the original label of the exsiccata Plantes d’Espagne, all data (collector, locality and date) match those of the lectotype. The GDA specimen was labelled as syntype by Vizoso in 2014. Sáez & Aldasoro (2003) indicate the G and MAF specimens as isolectotypes. The BC, G, and GDA specimens were identified as C. afra Cav. by Nyman in 1996, 1988, and 1991, respectively. APD (2020) accepts C. afra and C. dichotoma as different species, but according to Sáez & Aldasoro (2003) and Fennane & Mathez (2014) they are synonyms, and the correct name is C. dichotoma .
1,3 Campanula mairei Pau ex Maire View in CoL in Bull. Soc. Hist. Nat. Afrique N. 19(1): 59 (1928)
Ind. loc.:—“Grand Atlas”
Lectotype (designated here):—Grand Atlas, Ourika: bords des ruisseaux en montant de Timichi au Tizi Tachdirt, 2500–2800 m, 11 July 1921, Maire s.n. (lectotype MPU 000146 About MPU [photo!]* [https://herbier.umontpellier.fr/hv/ wakka.php?wiki=PagePrincipale/iframe&action=detail&ordre=p&codebarre= MPU000146 About MPU ]; isolectotype: P 00088642 [photo!]*)
Notes:—This taxon was first published by Jahandiez & Maire (1923) as Campanula herminii var. atlantica Jahand. & Maire. However , some years later, Maire (1928) indicated that this was a non-adequate name since C. herminii Hoffmanns. & Link is an endemic plant of the Iberian Peninsula and therefore he used the name C. mairei proposed by Pau, but unpublished (“in litteris”) at that time. One year later, Pau (1929b) also published a description of this taxon. El Oualidi et al. (2012) cites three syntypes: (1) MPU 000146, selected here as lectotype, because it has the indication of Campanula mairei on the label, (2) one in Herb. P, considered here as an isolectotype, because it includes plants from the same gathering, and finally (3) MPU 000144 [photo!] from Reraya, collected in 23 July 1922.
1,3 Campanula mollis var. longicornis Pau ex Maire View in CoL in Jahandiez & Maire, Cat. Pl. Maroc 3: 732 (1934)
= Campanula mollis L. View in CoL
Ind. loc.:—“Morro Nuevo (F.-Q. et MAIRE)”
Lectotype (designated here):—In rupibus calcareis litoris rifani: Morro Nuevo, 100 m, 19 June 1929 (lectotype MPU 034462 About MPU [photo!] [https://explore.recolnat.org/occurrence/ 23FB902BDA59491E916371F465EB9068]; isolectotypes BC 98230 !, BCN 72230 About BCN [photo!], MA 120879 !, MPU 005223 About MPU [photo!], MPU 006650 About MPU [photo!], P 00499127 [photo!])
Notes:—This name was first published as “ Campanula microphylla var. longicornis Pau ” in the exsiccata Iter Maroccanum 1929 nº 426 without description, and is therefore a nomen nudum. Later, Jahandiez & Maire (1934: 732) published the variety under C. mollis with a footnote diagnosis regarding var. rifana and var. oranensis . Different original material of this variety exists that match the locality indicated in the protologue: (1) two specimens, both labelled as “Morro Nuevo” without indication of collector, one in the personal collection of Maire in Herb. MPU and another in Herb. P; and (2) several specimens of the exsiccata Iter Maroccanum 1929 nº 426, whose labels state “Ras Sidi-el-Ahbed” as the collection locality. It should be noted that both names, the first in Spanish and the second in Arabic, correspond to the same place. The lectotype chosen is the specimen of Maire’s collection, originally identified as “ C. mollis var. font-queri Maire ”, a name that was never published. The BCN specimen was labelled as syntype and the one at Herb. MA was labelled as type by López González in 1979. The BC specimen was identified as C. mollis by Nyman in 1997.
1,2,3 Campanula vincaeflora Pau in Vidal, Bol. Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 21: 278 (1921)
= Campanula broussonetiana Schult.
Ind. loc.:—“Tiguisar, 26-IV”
Lectotype (designated by Cano-Maqueda & Talavera 2011: 36):—Tiguisar (Gomara), 22 April 1921, Vidal s.n. ( MA 121493 ! [http://colecciones.rjb.csic.es/#cardAdv.php?CatalogNumber=MA-01-00121493])
Note:—The specimen was collected on 22 April, although Cano-Maqueda & Talavera transcribed “26 April” as indicated in the protologue, but not on the specimen label.
1,2,3 Carduus fontqueri Pau ex Font Quer, Iter Marocc. 1930 nº 687 (1932), pro hyb., in sched. (“ font-queri ”)
=§ Carduus martinezii subsp. fontqueri (Pau ex Font Quer) Kazmi
Ind. loc.:—“Hab. in monte Gorgues dicto (Beni Hosmar), inter parentes, ad 450 m. alt.; 30 majii”
Lectotype (designated here):—In monte Gorgues dicto (Beni Hosmar), 450 m, 30 May 1930, Font Quer 687- 1930 (lectotype BC 136330 ! [https://www.ibb.csic.es/herbari/ JPEG / BC136330 .jpg]; isolectotypes BCN 73583 About BCN !, GDA 3937 About GDA [photo!], MA 132372 !, MA 132373 !, MPU 005239 About MPU [photo!], MPU 005240 About MPU [photo!], S 09-47125 [photo!])
Notes:—Due to the fact that the description on the label is authored by Font Quer, the name should be attributed to “Pau ex Font Quer”. Font Quer also indicated on the label the parents of this putative hybrid: Carduus ammophilus Hoffmanns. & Link and C. martinezii Pau. Kazmi (1964: 441) emended this name by deleting the hyphen and indicated as type a G specimen without specifying its catalogue number. Nevertheless, in this herbarium there is not any sheet of this taxon collected by Font Quer in 1930 and it seems that some vouchers mentioned by Kazmi (1964) from Herbs. G and P are false, or have disappeared (C. Chatelain pers. comm.). The BCN and GDA specimens were labelled as syntypes, the latter one by Vizoso in 2013. The BC specimen was identified by Devesa in 1996 as C. martinezii subsp. fontqueri . This subspecies is accepted by Devesa & Talavera (2002), El Oualidi et al. (2012), Rankou et al. (2013), and Fennane (2014c). It differs from the typical subspecies by the capitula usually sessile, in compact clusters of 4–7, and the leaves densely arachnoid on the lower surface (see Devesa & Talavera 2002). Following all these authors, this subspecies is accepted here, unlike in APD (2020), which does not record any infraspecific taxa for C. martinezii .
1,2,3 Carduus martinezii Pau in Mem. Real Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 12: 348 (1924a)
Ind. loc.:—“Beni Hozmar”
Lectotype (designated here):—Beni Hozmar, May 1921, Pau s.n. (lectotype MA 131871 ! [http://colecciones.rjb. csic.es/#cardAdv.php?CatalogNumber=MA-01-00131871]; isolectotype BC 33793 !)
Notes:— Kazmi (1964: 439) designated as type a specimen from Herb. Z without indicating any catalogue number. In this herbarium there are only two sheets of Carduus martinezii , both of the Iter Maroccanum , one from the 1928 campaign, nº 412 (Z 000117991 [photo!]) and the other from the 1929 campaign, nº 457 (Z 000117990 [photo!]). None of them belongs to the original material used by Pau to describe this taxon, thus according to Art. 9.19 ( Turland et al. 2018) the typification of Kamzi (1964) mentioned above is to be superseded.
1,2,3 Carduus nigrescens var. tetuanensis Pau in Mem. Real Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 12: 346 (1924a)
=§ Carduus maroccanus (Arènes) Kazmi
Ind. loc.:—“Dersa”
Type:—not seen
Notes:—According to APD (2020) this name should be accepted at the species rank as “ Carduus tetuanensis (Pau) Burgermeister ”, but apparently this name has not yet been published. Therefore, the accepted name follows Devesa & Talavera (2002).
1,3 Carduus tenuiflorus var. spinulosus Pau in Mem. Real Soc. Esp. Hist. Nat. 12: 347 (1924a)
Ind. loc.:—“ Tánger, Yebel Dersa”
Holotype:—Jebel Dersa, 6 May 1921, Pau s.n. ( MA 131984 !)
Notes:—The specimen was originally labelled as “ Carduus tenuiflorus Curt. (var.)” and with a revision label that confirms this determination. Although this label does not have any author or date, it was surely made by Burgermeister, who in 2016 determined other Carduus sheets in the collection. APD (2020) cites this taxon as C. pynocephalus var. spinulosus Pau , but this name should be considered a recombination published by Jahandiez & Maire (1934: 795), according to Art. 41.3 ( Turland et al. 2018).
