Chetina palpalis Rondani, 1859 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 96 (key), 98 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensi [ Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing right fore-, mid- and hind-legs), 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 11): Chetina Rnd. / palpalis Rnd. / 553; 1 ♀, syntype (missing mid- and right hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box E): Chetina R. palpalis Rnd. , 211, ♀, Parma / 393 211; 1 ♂, syntype (missing right mid-leg) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Chetina R. palpalis R. 26, ♂ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 1, posiz. C-5 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Paratryphera palpalis ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 176, Pape et al. 1995: 19, Cerretti 2010: 168; O’Hara et al. 2020: 373).
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 98) described both sexes of Chetina palpalis without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths. Herting (1969: 197) reported two males and two females in the MZUF. We found five syntypes in this study: two males and two females in the MZUF and one male in the MSNC. An additional MZUF specimen numbered “553” is not included in the type series because its label is yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and is in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat it to be a subsequent addition. The specimens in Box 11 have the same number as that of Chetina soror Rondani, 1859 .
