Hyboserica Péringuey, 1904: 27 ; Machatschke 1959: 744.
Material examined ( Hyboserica caffra [Fåhraeus, 1857]): 1 ɗ “ Natal, D’urban / Calloserica caffra Fhs. / Triodonta caffra Fhs. comp. cum type / SAM-Col A035/35” ( SAMC).
Remarks. I have examined the type of Serica globulifornis Brenske, 1901 , which is a member of the Maladera lugubris group ( Ahrens 2004) and truly a representative of the Indian fauna. The type locality " Cap b. spec.[ South Africa]" (specimen labeled: "Cap b. spec. Coll. Chevr. / Coll. Brenske / Serica globuliformis Typ. Brsk. " [ZMHB]) is erroneous perhaps due to mislabeling. Thus H. caffra is chosen as the type of the genus.
