Isomerida albicollis ( Laporte, 1840) View in CoL

( Figs 8–12 View FIGURES 1–12. 1–3 )

Hemilophus albicollis Laporte, 1840: 488 View in CoL .

Isomerida albicollis View in CoL ; Bates, 1866: 373; Galileo & Martins, 1996: 240 (syn.); Monné, 2017: 421 (cat.; see this catalogue for more references).

Hemilophus anceps Aurivillius, 1919: 7 View in CoL .

According to Galileo & Martins (1996) (translated): “ I. invicta View in CoL is characterized by the large dimensions and the presence of a longitudinal carina at center of dorsal surface of the elytra.” They also used these tow features to separate I. invicta View in CoL from I. albicollis View in CoL in the key (translated):

“11(10). Centro-dorsal carina of the elytra well-marked from base to beyond middle; large dimensions (length 15.7-15.8 mm). Peru

(Junín)...................................................................................... I. invicta - Centro-dorsal carina of the elytra absent; smaller dimensions (length smaller than 13 mm)..........................

........................................................................ 12 [conducting to I. albicollis ].”

Notwithstanding nearly all specimens of I. albicollis examined by us have the dorsal carina of the elytra as in holotype and paratype of I. invicta , and the dimensions in I. albicollis are very variable.

These same features were used in the key to species of Isomerida from Martins & Galileo (2014b). Only the ventral setae of the antennomeres may, eventually, separate these two species (shorter and sparser in I. invicta ).
