( Figs 59, 62, 65 View FIGURES 57–65 , 70, 71 View FIGURES 66–71 )
Traglostus longipilis Schedl, 1958 View in CoL , orig. spelling (new comb. by Jordal 2021)
Type material. Female holotype: [ Namibia] South-West Africa, R.E. Turner, Brit. Muss 1930-113 [ NHMUK]. Allotype, male: same data as holotype [ NHMW]. Homotypes: same but less specified data as holotype [ NHMUK].
Diagnosis, female. Length 1.4–1.5 mm, 2.6–2.7 × as long as wide, colour black. Frons broadly, deeply concave, epistoma with a pair of broadly separated, thick, short spines pointing slightly inwards; scapus with triangular dorsal spike, on its apical part with a long narrow tuft of setae longer than the spike; antennal club shiny and glabrous on basal half, with two transverse sutures on apical half; pronotum arched, asperities dense, very rough, Cactopinus - like; declivity lightly impressed; vestiture on central part of elytral disc long and narrowly spatulate, towards the sides and declivity, and near margins of the pronotum and partly on legs and ventrites, setae exceedingly long and curled, appearing woolly. Male quite similar to female; aedeagus with apophyses shorter than penis, manubrium of tegmen about half the length of apophyses.
Distribution: Namibia.
Remarks. Previously noted as a South African species, but the type series were collected in South-West Africa, a previous colonial name for Namibia. The classification of this species is problematic. The apophyses are much shorter than penis, and the pair of spines on epistoma is unusual. In the absence of genetic data, the best option is to retain this species in Lanurgus (see discussion in Jordal, 2021).
