The deep phylogeny of this family is based on the results of Kallal & Hormiga (2018). The relationships within Metellina and Pachygnatha are based on morphology and are strongly supported by analysis of the barcode sequences for all representatives. The same is the case for Tetragnatha , where the basal placement of T. striata is based on its previous position in a separate genus ( Arundognatha ) and its presumed relationship to T. nitens or T. vermiformis ( Levi 1981) . Barcodes for both of these have been sequenced and show a similar basal position relative to the remaining British congeneric species.
