Remarks

Trichorhina anophthalma is fully illustrated here ( Figs 26–27 View Fig View Fig ) to facilitate its identification. Hoese (1984) recorded this species from the Canary Islands (Fuerteventura and Tenerife) and considered T. hoestlandti Vandel, 1960 from Madeira ( Vandel 1960 b) to be a junior synonym of that species. Contrary to this, Schmalfuss (2003) regarded both species as valid. A re-examination of specimens of Trichorhina hoestlandti from Madeira is necessary in order to define the taxonomic status of this species. The specimens of Trichorhina from the Canary Islands recorded by Hoese (1984) also need to be examined for a correct identification.

Ecological notes

This species is probably endogean and troglophile rather than a true troglobiont.
