Tripeta syllibi Rondani, 1870 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1870c: 109 (key), 118 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in colle agri parmensis [Parmese hill ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (terminalia in a microvial pinned below specimen) ( MZUF: Box 33): Tripeta Mgn / syllibi Rnd. , ♂ / 1723 / ♂ / lectotype ♂ Tripeta syllibi Rondani det. I.M. White, 1987 = Terellia virens (Loew) .

PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box 33): Tripeta Mgn / syllibi Rnd. , ♀ / 1723 / Terellia serratulae (Linn.) , det. I.M. White, 1987.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Terellia syllibi ( Foote 1984: 136) ; junior synonym of Terellia virens (Loew, 1846) (White 1989: 57, Norrbom et al. 1999: 223).

REMARKS: Rondani (1870c: 118) described both sexes of Tripeta syllibi without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Uterque sexus semel lectus [Once collected both sexes]”. White (1989: 57) designated a lectotype (♂) but did not mention an additional female numbered “1723” in the MZUF (this additional specimen is a paralectotype). This nominal species was described under the generic name Tripeta , which is an “unjustified emendation of Trypeta Meigen, 1803 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 185).
