Viola montcaunica Pau (1895: 129)

Synonyms:— Viola cornuta L. subsp. montcaunica (Pau) Rivas-Martínez (1964: 226) ≡ Viola cornuta L. var. montcaunica (Pau) Malagarriga (1976: 751) .

Lectotype (designated here):— SPAIN. Aragon: “ Moncayo (Zaragoza) ”, July 1893, Vicioso B. s.n. (MA82377– 2!; Fig. 5 ).

Notes:—Pau in Plantas aragonesas recogidas por D. Benito Vicioso, de Calatayud (1895) described the type of Viola montcaunica as a specimen collected by Vicioso, sub “ V. cornuta γ micrantha Lge !” in “ Julio 1893. Vertiente oriental del Moncayo; número de la papeleta, el 543.”. Such specimen with the label of “B. Vicioso Herbarium Aragonense” and the number 543 was found in MA and designated here as the lectotype ( Fig. 5 ).

Viola montcaunica is a Spanish endemic, distributed in the mountains of the Iberian and Central Systems.
