Agrilus dimidiatus Waterhouse, 1889:107 View in CoL .

Diagnosis. Larger species, 6.40–7.40 mm long. Epistoma golden, head and anterior 2/3 of pronotum red, posterior 1/3 of pronotum, elytral humeri and basal depressions greenish blue, otherwise black, posterior 2/3 of elytra with golden-greenish reflections, posterior coxae and lateral portions of abdominal ventrites with blue reflections. Epistoma with strong transverse carina between middle of antennal insertions and narrow transverse depression above with two pores at corners. Antennae serrate from antennomere 5. Prehumeral carinae lacking. Transverse depression on posterior 1/3 of pronotum, deeper in transverse oval depression anterior to scutellum, pore at posterior margin of depression. Scutellum pentagonal, broader than long, with strong transverse carina. Gold setae on posterior 2/3 of elytra, and extending in narrow stripe along suture for additional 1/6. Silvery setae on posterior coxae and spots on posterior margin of metasternum, broadened posterior portion of dorsal portion of abdominal ventrite 1, and upper anterior corners of abdominal ventrites 3–5 Femora without ventral teeth.

Specimens examined. Costa Rica: Ala[juela Prov.], 20 km S Upala, 1–11 June 1991, F.D. Parker (EMUS), Prov. Puntarenas, Carara N. P., 100–150 m, 9o48’N; 84o35’W, 1- 2.5.2005, Barries, Cate & Nagy (WBC). Panamá: 5 km W Ipeti, 11.05.1985, A.J. Gilbert (FSCA); [Chiriquí Pr.,] Bugaba, Champion (Holotype, BMNH).

Discussion. This species was previously known only from the type and differs from the others in having the base of the elytra bright greenish blue. The pattern of golden setae on the elytra is similar to that of the female of A. dipterioides in having narrow sutural stripes extending toward the scutellum.
