Description. General: ( Figs 311–314 View FIGURES 307 – 314. 307, 308 ) Body length 3.1–4.0mm. Arista pubescent. M1+2 ratio 4.5. First flagellomere slightly reniform, more lobate anteroventrally. Male unknown.

Chaetotaxy: Three fronto-orbital setae, decreasing in length anteriorly. Ocellar seta minute. Postvertical seta absent. Interfrontal seta absent. Anterior dorsocentral half length of posterior dorsocentral; holotype with third dorsocentral on left side; setae slightly shifted posteriorly. Acrostichal seta absent. One lateral scutellar seta. First flagellomere with long medial (not extending much dorsally past arista base) and ventromedial hairs along margin.

Colour: Setae light brown. Frons yellow with lateral and posteromedial margins brown, with stripes sometimes thickened and posterolateral corner around verticals brownish; pedicel and first flagellomere dark brown above point of pedicel; arista white; ocellar tubercle surrounded by dark brown triangle; back of head brownish along dorsal margin, with one pair of dark stripes radiating from foramen; palpus dark brown on distal 1/3–1/2; face dirty white with sides light brown; parafacial, gena and venter of postgena light yellow and silvery tomentose. Scutum and scutellum brown with broad central yellow stripe extending slightly outside dorsocentral rows, except posterolateral margin of postpronotum yellow and anterior margin of scutum very thinly brown. Metanotum dark brown with mediotergite yellow, sometimes excluding brown ventral margin. Halter white with brown outer-distal spot. Wing lightly clouded, darkening slightly to anterodistal margin. Pleuron white with dorsal brown spot on proepisternum, anepisternum dark brown with longitudinal yellow subdorsal stripe that fades posteriorly, and anepimeron brown with anterodorsal corner yellow. Prosternum dark brown. Legs yellow with coxae, fore tarsi and base of femora white. Abdomen yellow with most of tergite 1 light brown, posterior and lateral margins of tergites 2–4 light brown, sides of tergite 5 light brown and tergite 7 dark brown; sometimes tergites 1–4 brown with small medial spot on tergite 1 and one pair of yellow anteriomedial spots on tergites 3 and 4, lateral, posterior and posteromedial stripes on tergite 5 brown, and lateral margin of tergite 6 brownish.

Female terminalia: ( Fig. 343 View FIGURES 339 – 346 ) Ventral receptacle sac-like and recurved with base fringed; flagellum short. Spermathecal ducts lightly annulated and attached near base. Spermatheca yellowish with clear spots on cylindrical base and darker, globular, minutely wrinkled apex.

Etymology: Specific epithets for the species A. procne and A. philomela , two sister species from New Caledonia known only from females, are nouns in apposition referring to the names of two Greek sisters from mythology.

Distribution: New Caledonia.

Holotype: NEW CALEDONIA. “Nouvelle Caledonia ”, Sarraméa, 609m, Réserve du Col d’Amieu, 10–21.iv.2006, 21.43.914S/165.46.376E, Malaise trap, Ch. Mille (1♀, MHNG).

Paratype: NEW CALEDONIA. same collection as holotype, 24.iv–17.v.2006 (2♀, MHNG).

Comments: The species Allometopon procne ( Fig. 315 View FIGURES 315 – 320. 315, 316 ) and A. philomela are geographically isolated sister species characterized by an apical brown spot on the halter, a brown U-shaped marking on the frons and the posterolateral corner of the frons lateral to the vertical setae, thickened stripes on the back of the head, a spot on the proepisternum and prosternum, a partially brownish face, a yellow tergite 6, and yellow sublateral bands on at least tergites 4 and 5. Allometopon procne can be most readily diagnosed by an entirely brown notum and palpus, while A. philomela has a wide medial yellow stripe on the scutum that continues onto the scutellum and mediotergite, and a palpus that is only brown apically.
