Astraptes inflatio sp. nov.

Type locality. Costa Rica, Alajuela Prov. Area de Conservacion Guanacaste, Sector San Cristobal, Vado Rio Cucaracho , 10.8702 ° N, 85.39153 ° W, 640 m. GoogleMaps

Diagnosis. The species may be differentiated from other members of the Astraptes fulgerator complex by the following combination of character states of the DNA barcode: 109C; 121C; 649C.

Holotype. Voucher 02-SRNP-19284 , deposited at the University of Pennsylvania.

Note: This species corresponds to the OTU ‘INGCUP’ of Hebert et al. (2004).

Etymology. The name inflatio , a noun in apposition, means ‘inflation’, reflecting the large increase in apparent species diversity of the A. fulgerator complex resulting from the study of DNA barcodes.
