Type locality. Serbia: Nish. Neotype male (NHMUK), here designated.

Material examined. Serbia: Servia [ Serbia], Nisch , 2 males ( NHMUK); Dobroudja, Tulcea, 1 female ; Nisch , Serbia, 3 males ; Nisch , 1 female ; Nisch , 1 male (det. as Callimenus pancici Br. ) ( OUMNH) ; Serbia, Nisch, 3 males (det. as Call. Pancici by Br.W.); Dobrodga , 1 female (det. Boldyrev) ( ZIN).

Distribution. ( Fig. 194 View FIGURE 194 ). Central and E. Balkans: S. E. Serbia, E. Romania, W. and N. E. Bulgaria, Macedonia. Serbia: Nish ( Brunner 1882; Uvarov 1934); Romania: S. Dobrudja ( Karaman 1961 as dobrogensis ); Romania: Babadag, Iaşi (Valea lui David), Bulgaria: Dobrudja, Kaliakra, Balcic, Serbia: Nisch ( Kis 1962); Serbia: Nish, Lake Dorian, Bulgaria, Dobrudja ( Ebner & Beier 1964); Dobrudja, Romania: Iaşi, Babadag, Bulgaria: Thrace, Vitos, Serbia, Macedonia ( Harz 1969); Serbia: Nisch, Bulgaria: Bolata, Kaliakra ( Tatu & Tauşan 2012); Bulgaria: Bosten Vill. ( Warchałowska-Śliva et al. 2013).

Measurements (mm). Length of body: male 44–66, female 49–64; pronotum: male 16–22, female 15–17; hind femur: male 18.5–23, female 20–25; ovipositor: 17–19.5 ( Shugurov 1906; Karaman 1961; Harz 1969).

Remarks. According to Willemse (1984) of this taxon in Greece was not established while the records of Harz (1969) from Central Greece and Peloponnisos probably refer to B. oniscus . Therefore, Willemse & Willemse (2008) excluded it from the fauna of Greece.

The type locality is Turkey in 1853 ( Fieber 1853). At that time Turkey would also cover the Balkans. So in my opinion the type locality is possibly the Central Balkans. Male and female syntypes are probably lost. The typical forms from Serbia: Nish should be the representative of this taxon since the type locality is probably near to this region. Nish is also the type locality of B. pancici Br.W. a synonym of this species. Therefore, one of two males (the photograph of male given here) in the NHMUK is designated as neotype . Distributional area and its borders of this subspecies should be clarified and the presence of in some places such as Macedonia, Romania : İaşi, N. Bulgaria should be determined.

This species with both subspecies is in “Endangered” status in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (2016–3) and in the European Red List of Orthoptera ( Hochkirch et al. 2016) . This must be correct for the subspecies Bradyporus (Callimenus) macrogaster longicollis (see for the nominotypical subspecies above).
