Hyla fuhrmanni Peracca, 1914:108 (holotype from Guaca [= Heliconia, Antioquia, 1600 m], Colombia).

Cryptobatrachus fuhrmanni orientalis Rivero, 1968:148 (holotype, UMMZ 74812, adult female, San Gil, Santander, Colombia). New synonymy.

Cryptobatrachus boulengeri (in part): Cochran & Goin, 1970:163.

Diagnosis: A Cryptobatrachus with thin dorsolateral folds, finely granular skin on the dorsum with scattered larger warts, fingers lacking webbing, with subarticular adhesive pads, expanded disks on the digits, not exhibiting sexual dimorphism in the size of the tympanum, and not having the anterior part of the braincase broader than the middle part.

Cryptobatrachus fuhrmanni cannot be confused with any other Cryptobatrachus by virtue of the small tympanum in males and its skin texture.

Descriptions: The descriptions by Cochran & Goin (1970) and by Rivero (1968) are relatively complete aside from not assessing individual or sexual variation and not noting several characters reported here.

Distribution: This species is known from each of the three Andean cordilleras in Colombia. On the Cordillera Occidental, it occurs on the eastern flank in the departments of Antioquia and Caldas at elevations between 1400 and 1650 m. On the Cordillera Central, the species occurs on each flank at elevations between 380 and 1940 m. On the Cordillera Oriental, the species occurs on the western flank at elevations between 680 and 2050 m. However, only two transects have been investigated adequately (Valdivia, Antioquia; Samaná, Caldas). For most collections, collectors looked where they expected to find the frog, rather than doing a vertical survey.
