Holotype. Female , TAS, Warra Forest, 100 m site, - 43.016°S, 146.7°E, pitfalls, 5.iii.2012, M. Driessen leg. [ SAMA 22644 View Materials ]. GoogleMaps

Paratypes. Two males, same data as holotype.

Description. Size. Length up to 1.284 mm excluding antennae (n=3).

Colour. Dark blue with darker colour laterally and posterior parts of Th II and III, a posterior stripe on Abd I, lateral and posterior stripe on Abd II. Posterior stripe on Abd III and a lateral and posterior spot on Abd IV. Legs and antennae dark blue. Head with an anterior black spot between antennae, the ocular spot black ( Figs 1L View FIGURE 1 , 4G View FIGURE 4 ).

Head. Eight eyes, G and H smaller than E and F. Antennal length 440 μm, 2.2 times the length of the head. Ant IV with simple apical vesicle; relative length of Ant segments: 1/1.7/1.3/2.3. Four labral multispinate papillae ( Fig.15B View FIGURE 15 ). Four prelabral ciliated chaetae and 5,5,4 smooth labral chaetae. External process of labial papilla E reaching the papilla tip. Labium chaetotaxy not seen clearly, only the posterior chaetae seems ciliated.

Thorax and abdomen. Length ratio of Abd IV/III=5.8. Tibiotarsus without differentiated chaetae, with exception of the presence of the smooth terminal chaetae on legs 3, characteristic for the genus. Unguis with 4 teeth similar in size: paired at 50% of the basis, first unpaired at 75 % from the basis; lateral teeth at the level of paired ones. Unguiculus acuminated, external lamella serrated. Tenent hair clavate, longer than unguis. Trochanteral organ with 13 chaetae. Manubrial plate with 4 chaetae and 2 pseudopores. Mucro bidentate both teeth the same size, and with mucronal basal spine surpassing a little the tip of the subapical tooth, Mucro of 10 micrometers and not annulated dens five times the mucro.

Macrochaetotaxy. Simplified Mc formula: 3,1,0,3,2/3,3/1,2/1,0,1/0,2,1,2,2. Head chaetotaxy ( Fig. 15A View FIGURE 15 ) An 2, An 3a1, An 3 and A 5 Mac. Only M 1, M 2 and M 4 present as Mc. In sutural row present S 0, S 1, S 2, S 3, S 4i, S 4, S 5i and S 5. Ps 2 and Ps 5 present. Thoracic chaetotaxy as Th II chaetotaxy ( Fig. 15C View FIGURE 15 ) with Mc m 1 and m 2i on T1 area, on T2 area with Mc a 5, m 4 and m 4i. Abdominal chaetotaxy with Abd II ( Fig. 15D View FIGURE 15 ) with a 2, m 3ep and m 3e Mc present on A2 area of Abd II. On Abd III ( Fig. 15E View FIGURE 15 ) a 1 and m 3 Mc present on A5 area; Abd IV ( Fig. 15F View FIGURE 15 ) with Mc A 3, A 5 –A 6, A e3, A e4, B 4 –B 6 and C 1. Sensillary formula usual of Entomobrya , the bothriotricha on Abd IV in position T 2 and T 4 (0110).

Remarks. In colour pattern, E. driesseni sp. nov. could be confused with E. marginata . In the chaetotaxy of Th II and the chaetotaxy of Abd II and III, it is similar to E. albocincta and E. germanica Jordana, Schulz & Baquero, 2011 . The colour differentiates them. Also, only E. germanica has multispinate labral papillae as does this new species but the chaetotaxy of head and Abd IV differs between them: 1,1,0,2,2 for the head and 0,0,3,2,2 for Abd IV. The external unguiculus is serrate in this new species and smooth in E. germanica .

Etymology. The species is dedicated to Dr Michael Driessen, Tasmanian World Heritage Zoologist, who has collected many Collembola from the area.
