Plagioporus kamalai (Gupta, 1956) View in CoL n. comb.

Synonyms: Allocreadium kamalai Gupta, 1956 ; Hamacreadium kamalai (Gupta, 1956) Yamaguti, 1971 .

Records. From Salmophasia bacaila [as Chela bacala ], obtained at Lucknow fish market, Uttar Pradesh, India by Gupta (1956) as A. kamalai .

Remarks. Yamaguti (1971) transferred this species to Hamacreadium but it clearly does not belong there because it has an entire ovary and is from freshwater fishes. It is inconsistent with Allocreadium Looss, 1900 (Allocreadiidae) , in which it was originally described, because the intestine bifurcates in the forebody and the ventral sucker is substantially larger than the oral sucker ( Caira & Bogéa 2005). Although the original illustration depicts a specimen badly misshapen by flattening, it is clear that the genital pore is sinistral and that the ventral sucker is distinctly larger than the oral, thus it is more consistent with Plagioporus than Eucreadium.

Two Plagioporus View in CoL species, Plagioporus gonii Bilqees & Khan, 1988 View in CoL and Plagioporus gibsoni Bilqees, Shaikh & Khan, 2010 View in CoL , were described from the same host, the kuria labeo View in CoL , Labeo gonius (Hamilton) (Cyprinidae) View in CoL , and from the same freshwater lake in Pakistan. Bilqees et al. (2010) distinguished these species based on the size of the ventral sucker, but here they are considered indistinguishable and P. gibsoni View in CoL is thus a junior synonym of P. gonii View in CoL . Plagioporus kamalai View in CoL resembles P. gonii View in CoL , but in that species the vitelline follicles do not extend anterior to the intestinal bifurcation ( Bilqees & Khan 1988).
