Hexapleomera edgari View in CoL sp. nov.

Hexapleomera cf. robusta Edgar, 2008: 23 View in CoL View Cited Treatment –29, figs 10–12. (non Tanais robustus Moore View in CoL )

Diagnosis: Adult uropod with four segments; pleopod endopod with two subdistal inner marginal seta, pleopod 3 basis with one inner seta; coxa of pereopod 1 with slight apophysis; maxillule palp with five distal setae; maxilliped basis with two unequal distal setae, coxa with three setae, endite with three distal spines; cheliped fixed finger with five ventral setae; dactylus of male cheliped with spinulation along cutting edge; fixed finger with no proximal tooth-like apophysis on cutting edge.

Etymology: named for Graham Edgar, who discovered and, most valuably, comprehensively described this species.

Remarks: The material of this species, originally described as Hexapleomera cf. robusta by Edgar (12008), is deposited at the Queensland Museum, being one male (QM W25442) herein designated the holotype, and one female (QM W25443) herein designated a paratype. Both were from the carapace of a nesting Caretta caretta on a beach in Queensland, Australia. All other information can be found in Edgar (2008).

Hexapleomera edgari sp. nov. is distinguished from H. robusta by its having a distinct apophysis on the coxa of pereopod 1, as well as two (as opposed to one) inner setae on the pleopod endopod, only five (as opposed to eight) maxillule palp setae, three (as opposed to two) setae on the maxilliped coxa, and distal spines on the maxilliped endite, but no proximal tooth-like apophysis on the cutting edge of the fixed finger on the male cheliped.
