Type material. Holotype: ♂, INDIA: Tamil Nadu: ‘ S INDIA / Coimbatore [p] / xii. 46 [hw] / P. S. Nathan lgt. [p, white label] // ♂ [p, white label] // HOLOTYPUS [p] / Iphita / lata [hw] / det. STEHLÍK & KMENT 201[p] 3 [hw, red label]’ ( NMPC). The holotype is complete, pinned on a black-enameled pin.

Paratype: ♀, INDIA: Kerala: ‘S INDIA [p] / VII [hw] / S. Malabar ., [p] / 46 [hw] / Walay[a]r forest / P. S. Nathan lgt. [p, white label] // ♀ [p, white label] // PARATYPUS [p] / Iphita / lata [hw] / det. STEHLÍK & KMENT 201[p] 3 [hw, red label] ( NMPC). The paratype is complete, card-mounted.

Description. Colouration. General colouration coffee brown. Antennae (except basal third of antennomere 4), femora, tibiae, and membrane black. Lateral margins of pronotum, costal margin of hemelytra, hypocostal lamina, pronotal epipleuron, coxae, and trochanters reddish. Basal third of antennomere 4 whitish.

Structure. Labium reaching between metacoxae. Callar lobe wide, especially in female (pronotum nearly quadrate), and flat. Anterior pronotal margin concave, its anterolateral angles produced towards eye. Ventral surface of profemora apically with 3–5 teeth (1–3 in dorsal row, 0–2 in ventral row, often asymmetrically in one specimen). Protibiae and mesofemora ventrally with small denticles in both sexes.

Vestiture. Body bare, mesotibiae both dorsally and ventrally with black, semi-erect spines, metatibiae only ventrally with black, semi-erect spines. Punctures on pronotum fine, less apparent; clavus and corium with distinct black punctures.

Measurements (in mm). Holotype (male) / paratype (female). Body length 17.60 / 18.85; head: width (including eyes) 2.48 / 2.70, interocular width 1.51 / 1.62; lengths of antennomeres: 1–3.19 / 3.35, 2–3.35 / 3.84, 3–2.16 / 2.27, 4–2.81 / 2.97; pronotum: length 3.67 / 3.83, width 5.45 / 5.56; scutellum: length 2.16 / 2.54, width 2.81 / 2.94; corium: 8.80 / 9.50, width 2.29 / 3.51.

Differential diagnosis. Iphita lata sp. nov. is most similar to I. coimbatorensis , but the latter is generally larger (although the measurements of both species partly overlap; see below). I. coimbatorensis differs from the new species in the pronotum being anteriorly more narrowed, callar lobe more gibbose, and body more elongate.

Measurements of I. coimbatorensis (in mm). Males (n = 4). Body length 18.34 (17.41–19.17); head: width (including eyes) 2.58 (2.54–2.65), interocular width 1.53 (1.46–1.57); lengths of antennomeres: 1–3.29 (2.97–3.56), 2–3.52 (3.35–3.78), 3–2.21 (2.05–2.48), 4–3.27 (3.13–3.51); pronotum: length 4.02 (3.56–4.37), width 5.63 (5.24–5.99); scutellum: length 2.56 (2.29–2.86), width 3.15 (2.70–3.51); corium: length 9.21 (8.75–10.26), width 3.52 (3.29–3.62).

Females (n = 4). Body length 20.81 (18.85–22.00); head: width (including eyes) 2.89 (2.81–2.97), interocular width 1.66 (1.62–1.78); lengths of antennomeres: 1–3.48 (2.94–3.83), 2–3.97 (3.67–4.27), 3–2.36 (2.16–2.59), 4–3.29 (2.97–3.56); pronotum: length 4.20 (4.10–4.32), width 6.43 (6.16–6.75); scutellum: length 2.97 (2.38–4.00), width 3.79 (3.40–4.00); corium: length 9.98 (9.15–10.69), width 3.78 (3.67–3.89).

Etymology. The species epithet is the Latin adjective latus, - a, - um (= wide), referring to the wide pronotum characteristic of the species.

Distribution. India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu).
