Diagnosis. As for genus.

Type material examined. Holotype. QMMO6086 , Nagarigoon , Lamington National Park, SEQ, (28° 14S, 153° 13E), complex notophyll vine forest, 800m, iv.1976, coll. M.J. Bishop. GoogleMaps Paratypes. QMMO6080 , QMMO23308 , same data as holotype; Levers Plateau GoogleMaps : QMMO10420 , QMMO10421 . Brindle Creek : QMMO19822 .

Other material examined. Brunswick Heads: AM C.140473. Byron Bay: AM C.140474. Upper Tweed River: AM C.140491. Booyong Nature Reserve: AM C.464752. Springbrook National Park: QMMO 6283. Lamington National Park: AM C.129242, QMMO 16879. Terania Creek: QMMO 20003.

Description. Shell very small, pale orange to light brown, biconcave with depressed spire. Whorls 3.12–4.00, tightly coiled, the last weakly expanding and descending in front. Sutures channelled. Shell diameter 3.48–4.64 mm (mean 4.06 mm), height 1.64–2.22 mm (mean 1.90 mm), H/D 0.44–0.50 (mean 0.46). Protoconch flat, of 1.25 whorls, diameter 0.57–0.82 mm. Protoconch sculpture strongly reticulate with 19 closely spaced, continuous, narrow spiral cords and numerous, equally high, closely spaced arcuate radial ridges, forming a regular network. Teleoconch sculpture of numerous, prominent, quite uniformly spaced, slightly sinuate, strongly prosocline radial ribs. Ribs on body whorl 87–122 (mean 104), width of interstices on the first teleoconch whorl equal to width of four to less than six ribs; on the penultimate whorl equal to width of four to less than six ribs; each rib with single periostracal blade. Interstitial sculpture of low prominent microradial ribs and low, weaker microspiral cords forming weak beads at their intersection; number of microradials between ribs on the first teleoconch whorl 9–14; on first quarter of body whorl 17–25. Aperture roundly lunate. Parietal callus prominent, transparent. Umbilicus wide cup-shaped, diameter 1.00– 1.49 mm (mean 1.21 mm), D/U 3.06–3.78 (mean 3.35). Based on 9 measured adults.

Pallial roof with black maculation. Reproductive tract with ovotestis containing two clumps of alveoli, with more than two alveolar lobes per clump. Hermaphroditic duct corrugated, crescent-shaped. Spermatheca with a large oval-shaped bulb. Penial retractor muscle inserting at the junction of the penis and epiphallus. Epiphallus longer than penis, entering penis through a bud-like verge less than half length of penis; verge pore terminal. Penis tubular with an expanded apical portion; penial pilasters consisting of 1–2 V or Y-shaped and 2–3 longitudinal folds. Vagina shorter than penis. Atrium short.

Distribution and habitat. Border Ranges and adjacent coastal areas, north-eastern NSW/south-eastern Queensland; found in rainforest, living under logs.

Remarks. Macphersonea canalis ( Stanisic, 2010) n. comb. is readily distinguished from other sympatric charopids by the channelled sutures and the black maculation on the pallial roof of the animal. The strongly channelled sutures are a feature shared with the sympatric Elsothera genithecata Stanisic, 1990 but that species is larger, has an almost closed umbilicus and has a protoconch with prominent curved radial ribs. The prominent pallial maculation has not hitherto been seen in any other charopid from the Border Ranges. The reticulate protoconch sculpture comprised of spiral threads and arcuate radial ridges that form a regular honeycomb-like network is also distinctive. Samples of M. canalis exhibit considerable geographic variation in shell form and detailed molecular studies may yet uncover cryptic species.
