Taxonomy. Original description: Noemacheilus lindbergi Bănărescu & Mirza, 1965: 265 , figs. 1–4 [rivulet connected to drainage of the Farah River, Siaw, between Farah and Dilaram, Afghanistan, elevation 780 metres; holotype: HUJ 1572 (lost)].— Afghanistan synonyms: Noemacheilus lindbergi Bănărescu & Mirza, 1965 ; Nemacheilus lindbergi Bănărescu & Mirza, 1965 ; Schistura lindbergi ( Bănărescu & Mirza, 1965) .—Revisions: Bănărescu & Nalbant (1995: 441) as Schistura lindbergi .—Illustration: Bănărescu & Mirza (1965: 265, figs. 1–4) as Noemacheilus lindbergi .

Status in Afghanistan. Recorded from Afghanistan in original description by Bănărescu & Mirza (1965); confirmed by Coad (2014: 263; 2015: 229).—Afghanistan materials: HUJ, IBTS, SMF, ZMUC.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Farah River, Helmand River basin.—General distribution: Central Asia, South Asia: Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.—Habitat: The habitat of this species is threatened by the removal of sand and gravel from the river bed and by droughts, which both cause the habitat area and quality to decline. Freshwater.

Economic importance. No commercial importance.

Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: DD ( Daniels 2022b).—Threats: CON, CLI, ABS.—High sensitivity to human activities.—Keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—High priority for conservation action.
