Patellapis (Chaetalictus) minima ( Friese 1909) View in CoL

Halictus (Patellapis) minimus Friese, 1909: 149 .

( Figs. 97a–g View FIGURE 97 ; 98a–f View FIGURE 98 )

Diagnosis. The female is similar to those of P. renosterveldi and P. sakagamii in having the surface of the supraclypeal area and scutum completely or at least extensively reticulate. P. sakagamii is clearly separated from P. minima by its reddish metasomal terga T2–T4. The female of P. renosterveldi differs from that of P. minima in the reticulation of the scutum. In P. minima , the scutal surface is strongly and completely reticulate, whereas in P. renosterveldi the scutum is finely reticulate. Further, the scutal reticulation in P. renosterveldi can be partly interrupted, so the surface is shinier at these parts of the scutum. The surface of the scutum is slightly dull in P. minima . The male is characterised by lacking hairs on the dorso-lateral projection of the gonostylus, which is a character also occurring in P. drakensbergensis . Both are easily distinguished by the structure of the scutal surface, which is finely reticulate in P. minima and coarsely reticulate in P. drakensbergensis .
