Diagnosis. Species of medium size (4.8–5.9 mm), distinguished by eyes moderately large, very convex, subconical, distinctly prominent beyond genae, desmomere 4 elongate, elytra narrowed apicad, their maximum width across the humeral calli and protibiae widely rounded before apex.

Description. Body outline elongate, widest point across humeral calli, these prominent, strongly narrowed apicad. Dorsal vestiture composed of rounded scales, brown with golden shimmer, and of moderately long setae, not much broadened before apex, suberect in basal part of elytra, reclinate apicad. Rostrum transverse, sides almost straight, not or hardly convergent apicad; epistome not notched, epistomal keel present; pterygia distinct. Frons moderately wide, more than two thirds wider than metarostrum. Eyes moderately large, not larger than half distance between their front margin and hind margin of pterygia, rounded, prominent, subconical, at base subequal to width of epistome. Antennae with scape moderately narrow, strongly curved, hardly incrassate from base to apex; funicle elongate, all desmomeres longer than wide, not or hardly widened progressively towards apex, desmomere 2 not or scarcely shorter than 1, more than three times longer than wide; club elongate, first segment rather cup-shaped. Pronotum transverse, rounded at sides, with a faint median longitudinal keel. Elytra elongate, maximum width across humeral calli, weakly rounded at sides, elytral striae with distinct punctures in spite of vestiture, each puncture with a fine, elongate microseta, interstriae weakly convex. Tibiae elongate, protibiae on outer margin widely rounded before apex, curving inwards. Aedeagus in lateral view sharply curved ventrad before apex, in dorsal view widened and almost rounded in preapical region ( Fig. 21a); endophallic structures as in Fig. 21b. Spermatheca as in Fig. 51b.

Distribution. Balearic endemite: island of Mallorca (type locality: Palma de Mallorca: El Terreno). Spanish literature records: Mallorca: Palma: El Terreno (type loc.), Sóller, Valldemosa ( Tenenbaum, 1915).

Material examined ( Fig. 72). Spain: Mallorca: Mallorca ( SOL) ; Pollensa, leg. Jordá ( DOD, HOF) ; do., leg. Clermont ( HOF, PUR); Pollensa, El Rafal, 30.IV.00, leg. Pierotti ( PIE) ; do., 25.IV.2004, leg. Pierotti (BEL, PIE) ; Capdepera, leg. Jordá ( DOD) .

Biology. Found under low bushes in arid places.

Notes. See under Pseudomeira inviridis . We have been unable to locate the type of Peritelus balearicus in DES. However, the synonymy of this nominal species with P. tenuicornis as proposed by Hoffmann (1961) is credible and accepted here.
